Summary

Chrom Armed with a sword and quick on his feet, Chrom excels at nearly everything. With excellent running speed and top class air speed, Chrom is great at using movement to bait and punish attacks. The legendary Falchion provides him with many large, disjointed attacks. This synergizes with his speed, allowing him to control the neutral game by pressuring with hard to contest moves such as FAir and DTilt.

The robust prince is as strong as he looks, boasting powerful combos. Successful exchanges are very rewarding, be it from pressure, punishment or keep out. His launching power is immense, and safe attacks such as Jab and NAir can be hit confirmed into KO moves. When Chrom is on the battlefield, stocks will come and go in a flash.

However, the propensity for fast stocks is something that Chrom also finds himself on the receiving end of. When being juggled, he struggles to contest opponents below him, and his exploitable recovery can often spell a premature demise. Chrom’s powerful neutral game is as much of a necessity as it is an asset, as the player must stay on top of the opponent at all times.

Swift, safe, simple and strong, Chrom is a great pick for any fan of swords, footsies and fast-paced gameplay.
Pros Cons
  • Versatile: Chrom's speed, range and power make him a perfect all-rounder. There are no significant drawbacks for the opponent to exploit during the neutral game.
  • Superb Mobility: Chrom's movement speed is excellent, both on the ground and in the air. This aids just about every aspect of his gameplan.
  • Explosive Power: With powerful combos and high launch power, Chrom can take stocks in just a few exchanges.
  • Strong Pressure: His numerous safe and good ranged pokes allow Chrom to pressure shields relatively safely. Pokes such as Jab and NAir can be hit confirmed into KO moves.
  • Excellent Punishment: His speed and range make it easy to bait and punish the opponent. Special note must go to Up Special, which is one of the strongest OoS punishers in the game.
  • Space Control Master: Being a sword fighter, Chrom possesses attacks with large, disjointed hitboxes. He excels at boxing out opponents, especially those that lack disjoints.
  • Exploitable Recovery: Chrom's Up Special is vulnerable during the ascent and takes time to ledge snap. Up Special is also predictable as it cannot be angled or mixed up in any meaningful way. Characters with large hitboxes or windboxes can edgeguard it quite reliably. As a result, Chrom is reliant on his directional air dodge for recovery. This weak point is a very significant one.
  • Easily Juggled: As strong as his neutral is, Chrom is vulnerable when launched upward. He lacks a good descending aerial attack to cover the space below him. Challenging an opponent below is also risky, as a bad trade can hurl Chrom off stage, where his weak recovery torments him. His disadvantage state is quite poor overall.
