Gameplan Summary
Loxodont is a big, slow character with big, slow moves. He has the worst run and dash speed in the game, the second-worst air speed, and floaty fall speed. His moves are also slow to start up, and often have notable endlag. In exchange, his moves deal high damage and have massive hitboxes that are often disjointed. These moves also pack high knockback, and his smaller moves trade size for great combo potential.
Up close, however, Loxodont's attributes become a liability. His slow frame data and poor mobility make it difficult to deal with close-quarters pressure from characters like Zetterburn or Maypul, and he can struggle to punish options other characters wouldn't think twice about, especially out of shield. His size and weight make him easy combo and juggle fodder, and he struggles to escape out of disadvantage without a hard callout or spending his Molten charges with Down Special.
As a result, Loxodont is a defensive character that rewards good spacing and solid reads, using his range to preemptively control space and keep the other rivals at bay, and with the right opportunity or a hard read, Loxodont can land devastating combos and early kills with his brutal punish game. His heavy weight and good recovery give him a higher survivability than most rivals, providing plenty of opportunities to capitalize on an opponent's mistakes. But with his laggy moves and poor short-range game, Loxodont must make sure most of his hits land — or risk letting the whole game slip from his grasp.
