Hey there! This is the Dragdown Wiki team. Throughout the course of March and April, we will be focused on standardising general pages on the Rivals 2 Wiki. You can find our Roadmap to learn more, join us as an editor, or contact us via Discord or email. If you have any feedback, whether it be on current features and info, or requests for features you would like to see be added, let us know!

Recording Rivals of Aether 2

Did you hit a sick clip and want to share it with all your friends? Find a revolutionary tech that will change the meta forever? Want to ask someone to help your review your gameplay?

Here's a guide to help record your Rivals 2 footage. The following methods will be covered here, but more can be added if needed:

  • Accessing Raw Replay Files
  • Windows Game Bar
  • Steam Recording
  • OBS

Replay Files

To grab a replay on a Windows device:

  1. Press WindowsKey + R
  2. Paste the following & GO → %localappdata%\Rivals2\Saved\Replays
  3. Locate the replay you want to share from the list

To load someone else's replay on a Windows device:

  1. Press WindowsKey + R
  2. Paste the following & GO → %localappdata%\Rivals2\Saved\Replays
  3. Copy/move the other person's replay file into this directory
  4. When you boot Rivals, you should see listed (note, replays are listed chronologically, based on when the match took place)

Windows Game Bar

Most machines running Windows will have this. You can activate it by pressing the Windows + G, or the Xbox button on your Xbox controller if you have one.

Here is an official guide for doing so, by the way.

Steam Recording

If you are playing Rivals 2 on Steam (you are), you should have access to that. Here is the official guide on how to use it: [1]

To enable this option, go to Steam > Settings > Game Recording. You can toggle...

  • Recording Off. Don't choose this one.
  • Record in background. This records the most recent 120 minutes as a buffer, and you can select clips out to save later.
  • Record on demand. This will start a recording whenever the keybind is activated. The default keybinding is Ctrl + F11.

You can either use the keybind to start a recording, or you can enable Steam in-game overlay (Shift + Tab while in-game) and click "Start Recording" on the top. Once recording starts, you can either use the keybind or click the button in the Steam overlay again to stop recording.

Optimizing Video Quality

The video size can be really big and not optimal for sending. You can change the recording settings here. Go to Settings > Game Recording. Under VIdeo Recording, you can change:

  • Recording Quality, which changes the compression.
  • Maximum Video Height, which changes the resolution of the video.

Exporting Recordings

To access recordings, use the in-game overlay (Shift + Tab).

  • Go to the bottom bar and select the icon labelled Recordings and Screenshots.
  • If you want to share an entire video, you can either export the file or copy it directly to keyboard.
  • If you want to clip it, you can click the Clip button to select an excerpt of your recording.

OBS

This is particularly useful if you plan on streaming, since you will probably be using OBS anyway. This is the most versatile of all the options. Note that with OBS, you will need a third-party video editor in order to cut up and compile clips from your footage.

  1. Download from [2].
  2. Follow all of the installation instructions.
  3. Once you have OBS installed, start it up.

You will need to create a scene in order for your game to show in your recording.

  1. Go to the top toolbar and click Docks. This can also be done by clicking Alt, and then D.
  2. Make sure that Sources is checked. If not, select it.
  3. Go to the Sources panel in your window.
  4. Click on the + button to add a source. Alternatively, right-click the panel to pull up the context menu, and select Add.
    1. If you want to capture your entire monitor or screen, select Display Capture. This will capture everything on your screen, which may include windows other than your game.
    2. If you want to just capture Rivals II, select Game Capture. If the game does not show up, select Window Capture.
  5. Name your source and then click OK to add it.
  6. The capture window will open. Click on the dropdown for Mode, and choose Capture specific application.
  7. Select the window that corresponds to Rivals 2.
  8. Click OK to finish setting up the source.

If Rivals 2 looks too small, you may need to resize it in the preview.

  1. Click on the Rivals 2 source in the sources panel.
  2. Right-click > Transform > Fit to Screen.

Optimizing Output and Resolution

This can matter if you are trying to send small clips just to show tech, and want to record at a lower resolutions to enable smaller files.

  1. Go to File (Alt, F) > Settings.
  2. Go to Video.
    1. Base resolution should correspond to your game footage. Keep this at whatever size you run your game window at, or the screen resolution for fullscreen.
    2. Output resolution is how large the video file will end up looking. The lower quality you make this, the worse the video will look, but the smaller the file size.
    3. Keep FPS at a minimum of 60. Rivals of Aether II internally runs at 60 frames per second, and a lot of actions are down to the frame, so do not lower this if at all.
