Kragg Tech
Preface
Going through here, you'll notice there is a color code to help anyone look over tech and understand how useful or how prevalent they will be used during matches.
- Essential - Any tech with Essential are important to learn as they are commonly used in match-ups.
- Useful - Any tech with Useful are often very useful and good for mix-ups and many common situations.
- Situational - Any tech with Situational are tech that won't commonly be used but still have a level of viability, something that you might pick up once you've learned anything above it in tiers.
- For Fun - Any tech with For Fun don't offer any advantage to play, usually just for style.
Pillarless Options
How It Works
By using Forward Special and pressing Shield during the start-up, Kragg will cancel the move and leap horizontally. If his pillar exists it will be destroyed and can not be regenerated until he touches the stage again. As he is jumping, he is considered to be in freefall and cannot act again until he reaches the ground or the ledge (outside of walljumping).
Application
Pillarless F-Special allows Kragg to gain significant horizontal momentum quickly at the risk of losing his resources should he be hit before making it back to the stage. This allows Kragg to mixup his recovery significantly, threatening to Pillarless F-Special to ledge or the stage if he is high enough. Note that although Pillarless F-Special puts you into landing lag should you land on stage, you can ledge cancel it on a platform for extra safety or to move around the stage quickly.
How It Works
By using Up Special after Kragg's pillar has been expended, he will do a small hop granting him a bit of upwards momentum in the direction he is facing. Like Pillarless F-Special, if his pillar exists it will be destroyed and can not be regenerated until he touches the stage again. As he is jumping, he is considered to be in freefall and cannot act again until he reaches the ground or the ledge (outside of walljumping).
Application
Pillarless Up Special is usually Kragg's last resort if he has expended all of his other resources. It gives slightly more height than Pillarless F-Special but does not cover as much distance horizontally. It can also be walljumped out of if Kragg hits a wall while free falling.
How It Works
As Pillarless F-Special and Pillarless Up Special allow you to walljump out of their free fall states, you can combine a Pillarless F-Special -> Walljump -> Pillarless Up Special to recover from unexpectedly precarious situations even without your pillar. Combining these moves with wall techs and air dodges allow Kragg to stay alive for far longer than his opponents might expect.
Tilt Boosting
How It Works
Kragg can gain significant forward distance by canceling the first 2 startup frames of Jab 3 into a tilt. If the tilt is input too early then it will not be boosted, and if the tilt is input too late then you will get a Jab 3 attack. This tech can not be buffered and must be manually timed within the first 2 frames of startup of Jab 3 rendering it quite difficult.
Application
Tilt Boosting allows Kragg to start juicy combos using Jab 1 -> Jab 2 -> Up Tilt (tilt boosted). The forward momentum that tilt boosting gains allows this combo to work at significantly more spacings than without the tilt boost. Kragg can also do this tech on whiff to catch opponents off guard who might be trying to outspace him. Kragg can tilt boost into his other tilts as well, although they are not as useful.
